Building strong leaders is a part of the YMCA-YWCA commitment. With several different programs for youth that focus on leadership, health and community involvement participants learn the importance of taking responsibility, communication, volunteering and community involvement.

Youth in Action  11 - 14 yrs
Do you want to make new friends? Build your confidence and skills for the future? Get involved in your community? Youth in Action provides a safe, comfortable environment for youth to develop leadership skills through sports, team building, group activities, out trips and socials. This is a registered program, see Y Guide for details.

Girls Night Out  9 - 14 yrs
When girls get together great things happen! Girls Night Out is an opportunity to develop your creativity and new friendship, discuss topics related to girls, learn leadership skills and to take part in a variety of activites from out trips to special events and volunteerism.

Babysitter Training  10+ yrs
Job opportunities await you when you become a certified babysitter. Course topics include keeping children safe, basic first aid, coping with common problems, as well as game and activity ideas.

Resistance Training  13 - 17 yrs
Discover the benefits and principles of proper lifting, stretching and nutrition in this 8 week program. Our trainers will help you gain the self-confidence you’re looking for by teaching the essentials of body health.

Youth Agility Training  13 - 17 yrs
If you are looking for a fun and challenging way to improve your level of activity this is the class for you! This 8 week program will help you develop sport-specific power that is used in so many sports such as basketball, hockey and soccer. Registered program.

Yoga for Everyone  12+ yrs
Yoga is not just for your parents anymore! Easy to learn, this yoga program requires little or no equipment, it relaxes your soul while building muscle and flexibility.

Youth Advisory Council  Grades 10 - 12
The Y’s Youth Advisory Council is an ambitious group of grade 10-12 students who gather twice a month to create new programs, advise on current programs and help organize and put on events for children and youth at the Y. Who better to get youth excited about their community than you?

What can I bring to the Y’s Youth Advisory Council?

  • Give solutions and share ideas to help the Y speak to youth and reach into our community. Peer Power!

  • REPRESENT! Youth in your community need a voice. Speak with government agencies and other influential organizations on behalf of youth. 

  • Earn volunteer hours, experience and leadership skills to help develop your resume and make you stand out as a leader.

  • Be a role model… it just takes a strong voice!
