Miss Michael knew "In Flanders Fields" - it had been printed in December 1915 in England and there had been "Replies" penned by many and it was even set to music by such as Sousa. Her response was based on a colourful illustration in an huge advertisement in a popular women's magazine, by artist Philip Lyford. Dying doughboys...sadly the surgical supplies ad gave inaccurate information about the author of "In Flanders Fields" which still pops up on the internet.

I am turning 70 this fall, and was having trouble lowering my cholesterol levels, but I react badly to Lipitor and other similar medications, so I decided to start walking. I started walking on the rangeland in Winfield for 30 minutes daily. I soon increased this on a regular basis until I now walk for about 2 hours at a good, fast pace. When I had my physical recently, my doctor and I were both really pleased that my cholesterol levels had dropped significantly. An added benefit is that I've lost the extra pounds that I had around my waist.

I now walk from the north end of the Clearwater subdivision to Duck Lake and back. There are several different paths that I follow to keep it interesting, The views are great, and I often come upon herds of deer, cattle, or a lone coyote. The improvement in my overall health and physical condition has been remarkable.
