All ‘Y’s are built by the community and for the community. The YMCA–YWCA of the Central Okanagan strives to meet community needs by actively engaging community support, promoting the value of volunteerism and philanthropy, while celebrating diversity and global awareness.

The YMCA–YWCA offers its programs and services with the assistance of more than 200 volunteers. From providing childminding and preschool instruction, to supervising weight training, volunteers are our foundation. Volunteers at the Y not only give of their time and talent; they also gain skills and experiences, meet new friends and have fun.

Actively involving people in building a stronger community is what the YMCA–YWCA is all about. Our annual YWCA Week Without Violence provides an opportunity for hundreds of children and youth to express their vision of a world without violence, and brings many community groups together to work towards a violence–free community.

 

The YMCA–YWCA has a responsibility to our global community and consistently commits funds, time, and support to countries in need. The YMCA–YWCA can play an important role in addressing issues related to community, social and economic development and plans to further develop its international work in coming years.

 

The YMCA-YWCA of the Central Okanagan offers a wide range of existing programs designed to help build community and, at the same time, is always interested in working with other persons or groups in the Okanagan whose goals and values are similar to ours.

 

Networking with community groups and individuals enables the Kelowna Family Y to establish liaisons and offer cooperative programming and advocacy.  We welcome inquiries and proposals from those who are interested in partnering with the Y to improve the growing Kelowna community.
